Still I Rhyse
Still I Rhyse is a 18x24” hand carved linoleum block print made using oil based inks on archival and acid-free Stonehenge kraft colored paper. The print is made using three different hand-carved linoleum blocks and printed on an antique etching press. Still I Rhyse (pronounced rise) features a braided head of a Black woman with a halo of a saw palmetto plant surrounding her. This print is a nod to Black women as earth gods— forever feeding the earth and protecting it. It is through the tending of the earth by Black femme hands that abundance flourishes. All that we touch we change. All that we change changes us. Our truth is change. Still I Rhyse is made in a limited edition of 25 and will be printed in small batches until the edition is sold out. The print was made for the group show “Yours, Mine, Ours: Works by the Strong and Sensitive” shown at The Peale Museum in Baltimore, MD October 5-26th, 2024.
