The native range of Maranta leuconeura is Central & E. Brazil. It is a subshrub and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome. It is has environmental uses. It is commonly called a 'Prayer Plant' because of the family's (Marantaceae) common trait of raising the leaves upward at night. They love a consistently moist environment in a growing media that is on the moderately chunky side. Not quite an aroid mix but not normal soil either.
