Okra - Clemson Spineless The okra plant itself is very beautiful. It is part of the hibiscus family and makes very attractive flowers. These plants also love the heat, they are one of the very few that can grow in the warmer months of Florida.  We have chosen the Clemson spineless variety because as the name implies, this plant is spineless. Many other varieties of okra have tiny little thorns on them making them difficult to work with.  Type: Heirloom When to Plant:  North Florida: March - August Central Florida: March - August South Florida: August - September Planting instructions: Plant in a spot with full sun and well-draining soil. Give each plant 12-18” of space between each other. Sow directly into the garden or start transplants undercover.
