Heinz Eifel Eiswein
A true winter luxury. This rare eiswein is made from grapes harvested at a frigid 10°F in the early morning hours while still frozen on the vine, producing an intensely concentrated nectar that can age for many years or be enjoyed now! The Eifel family has roots in the village of Trittenheim along the Mosel River. Heinz Eifel owns the Römerhof Winery, where his daughter Anne Eifel-Spohr is the chief winemaker. Making eiswein is a labor of love and extreme risk. Grapes must survive on the vine through winter, avoiding rain and hungry wildlife, all in hope of that perfect freeze. Expect a pepper-laced pear and apple nose with eye-popping acidity and extraordinary depth. Densely packed citrus, pear and floral notes with hints of sweet honey lead to raisin, orange and butterscotch flavors on the palate. Lusciously sweet but balanced by bright acidity. Perfect with: Decadent desserts, sharp aged cheeses, foie gras, or simply sipped on its own as a special occasion indulgence. Producer: Hei
