Bacardi Carta Blanca Superior Original Rum 4/5 Quart Bacardi is a famous brand of rum, founded in Cuba and now based in Puerto Rico. It is most famous for its white rum but makes various expressions of aged and flavored rums, as well as premixed drinks. Today, the Bacardi company owns a number of notable spirits brands, including Grey Goose vodka, Dewar's whisky and Bombay Sapphire gin. The brand was founded in 1862 when Catalan-born wine merchant Facundo Bacardi Massó and his brother José set up a distillery in Santiago de Cuba. Facundo had previously pioneered charcoal filtration which, along with aging in white oak barrels, allowed him to produce what is generally considered the first white rum. Fruit bats lived in the rafters of the distillery, inspiring the company's logo. Bacardi began to expand internationally in the 1910s, finding markets outside of Central America.
