Macallan 1990 25 Year Old Douglas Laing XOP Single Cask 10878 49.7% The nose is fresh and clean initially, warming to flambéed banana, syrup and burnt sugar. On the palate, that banana is still there! Plus mellow honey, toffee and a crunched sugar quality. The finish is gently spiced and subtly fructiferous, showing now apples, barley and molasses. The highest tier of Douglas Laing's current collection is the XOP (Xtra Old Particular) label. These are the “family jewels”, each release being a one of a kind, all natural whisky. Distilled in 1990 and bottled August 2015 from a refill hogshead (DL10878), this is Macallan as few will have experienced it before, non chill filtered and natural colour (official distillery bottlings are typically chill filtered). The price/age ratio on this release is quite exceptional - plus it's cask strength at 49.7% Alc./Vol. Aged for 25 years in a refill hogshead, this is sweet with notes of burnt orange, ginger and cinnamon.
