After his tour of duty ended, he stayed to work in the Rum industry to found Oliver & Oliver. In Cuba’s second war for independence, the plantation and distillery were destroyed. But a century later his great-great-grandson re-founded the family business — this time in the Dominican Republic. To this day they make some of the most sought-after Rums for consumers all over the world.
