It’s named after the eastern Guatemalan town of Zacapa, where their plantations lie on the volcanic plains at 1,148ft above sea level. But their Rum is actually aged even higher up, at the House Above the Clouds, Zacapa’s aging facility, located at 7,545ft above sea level – it really doesn't get very hot there and so, the Rum can age more consistently in the fresh mountain air. While most Rums are molasses-based, Zacapa only uses the concentrated first press of sugar cane, known as virgin sugar cane honey – think smoother and sweeter. Plus, Zacapa Rums are aged Solera-style, which is traditionally reserved for Sherry production.
