Amano Shrimp Amano Shrimp or Caridina multidentata are a freshwater species of shrimp native to Japan and Taiwan. Amano Shrimp were introduced into the aquarium hobby by Takashi Amano in the early 1980s. Amanos are widely popular among planted tank enthusiasts as they eat algae off of plants and substrate. These Amano Shrimp grow to 3+ inches in length and display clear body coloration that can change during breeding to different hues of red, blue, and green. They can cohabitate with small fish species, snails, and dwarf freshwater shrimp. Amano Shrimp can tolerate a wide range of water parameters and work in almost any aquarium setup.
