The Mahwash necklace is handmade in Kabul by the men and women artisans of the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Training and employing young people in meaningful creative jobs is vitally important now in Afghanistan when the young desperately need hope and a sense of purpose in a beautiful country tragically caught up in violence and conflict. Lapis Lazuli was once the most sought-after stone in the world. Found in Afghanistan, the rock of truth is said to encourage honesty of the spirit and grant the wearer with an improved sense of judgement. WHY WE LOVE IT Turquoise Mountain was founded in 2006 by His Majesty King Charles III to revive historic areas and traditional crafts and provide jobs, skills, and a renewed sense of pride. In awe of what Turquoise Mountain achieved, Pippa began her partnership and traveled to Kabul to start to work with a workshop in 2008.
