John Lunn "The Dryad's Touch" - 18K green gold flute, specialty engraving, offset G, D/B footjoint
The Dryad’s Touch is an 18K green gold John Lunn flute tuned in A442 with a B footjoint and an extra single key D footjoint. I took 2 months to design and choose the gold alloy and 4 more to build. Every key, arm, rib, post and ring on this flute is hand wrought, hammered, drilled and chased completely from raw wire and tubing. There are no machined parts at all on the flute with the exception of the machine punched key cups, interior steel rods and small screws. Because of this, no two of my flutes look exactly alike. After exploring many different gold alloys I chose green gold for it's unusual lustre and potential acoustic properties. It may be the only green gold flute in the world. Most gold flutes are made from rose or white gold both of which are a bit harder than the green alloy. The less harsh alloy complimented my scale to give the flute increased versatility to project a full orchestral sound as well as more intimate chamber music, jazz and pop throughout the entire range o
