Piroska is a lyrical ballad influenced by composer, Michele Kalo's Hungarian heritage. This piece is a wonderful Grade 2.5 piece to teach phrasing, 3/4 time and the beauty of folk-like melodies. The title Piroska comes from the word piros, the Hungarian word for "red," or "little red one." The red color is regarded by the Hungarians as something very beautiful and rich. Piroska was written for the 2010 New Horizons Music Camp in Chautauqua, NY. Michele Kalo knew her passion was to teach music in the 7th grade. Fulfilling this passion, Michele has been in public education since 1998, teaching band in grades 5-12 in the Detroit Metropolitan Area for five years and in Arizona since 2003.  She is currently teaching K-6 General Music and Band at Ishikawa Elementary in the Mesa Public Schools District, is an adjunct faculty member Scottsdale Community College and maintains a private high brass studio.  Michele is also an active adjudicator and clinician for ABODA and AMEA.  She most recentl
