There are two distinct versions of this lore. Some say the wendigo is a creature who hunts and eats humans, while others believe it is a spirit that possesses people in their dreams and turns them into cannibals. In the first version, the wendigo is described as an ashen creature with antlers, claws, fangs, and haunting eyes. The more it eats, the taller it grows, reaching up to 15 feet in height. In order to kill this creature, it is said that its heart must be cut out and burned. In the second version, gluttonous people, or those suffering from starvation, are particularly susceptible to possession by this spirit, known as "going wendigo."
