St. John's Wort
"Hypericum perforatum" (cut and sifted) commonly called St. John's Wort, Klamath weed, Tipton weed, Goat weed, Enola weed or "Johanniskraut" in German. St. John's wort has been used for multiple medicinal uses for over 2000 years. Greek physicians recommended it as a diuretic, wound-healing herb, treatment for menstrual disorders and cure for intestinal worms and snakebites. It was believed to have mystical qualities and was collected to for protection from demons and to drive away evil spirits. Since the Middle Ages teas and tinctures were made to help with depression, anxiety, insomnia, water retention and gastritis...a trend that upheld until now. Until the late 1990s in Europe alone, tablets, capsules, teas and tinctures accounted for around US$ 6 billion. St. John's Wort is very suitable for a proper Degu diet since their sensitive G.I. tracts are not used to wet and sugary food. They can become diabetics very easily. Degus originate from the arid plains of the Andes in Chile
