White Willow
"Salix alba" cut and sifted the white willow is a species of willow native to Europe and western and Central Asia. The name derives from the white tone to the underside of the leaves. Like all willows it can usually be found in wet or poorly-drained soil at the edge of pools, lakes or rivers. Its wide-spreading roots take up moisture from a large surrounding area. People like Hippocrates believes willow bark could ease aches and pains and reduce fevers. The bark is often macerated in ethanol to produce a tincture. Willow is often used to produce toys and houses for small animals and a welcome opportunity to chew and entertain for hours.
