The war on drugs was started in the 1970s by Richard Nixon, since then the US Government has spent an estimated 1 trillion dollars ($1,000,000,000,000) on the effort to decrease the availability and use of illegal drugs. The US Government also made an estimated 45 million drug-related arrests between 1971 and 2018.
