Bjorn Ironside was one of the most prolific Vikings. He and his men raided coastal towns through France, Spain, Sicily, Italy and North Africa. During a battle in Italy, Bjorn’s crew was unable to breach the walls. He pretended to be dead and had his men ask the town priests to bury him on consecrated ground. Once his coffin was carried into the church, Bjorn leaped out and fought his way to the city gates where he was able to open them so his men could invade.
