The Texas Suit
The Texas Suit is a ready-to-wear western suit that was designed and embroidered by Christina Hurt Smith for Fort Lonesome's Haus of Shiny Shit art show that was held at Preacher Gallery in Austin, Texas in February of 2020. The Texas Suit celebrates the natural beauty of the Lone Star State. The imagery on the suit includes: ocelots, bluebonnets, Guadalupe bass, prickly pear, mockingbirds, sundance flowers, longhorns, copperhead snakes, roseate spoonbills, jackrabbits, yucca, a century plant and an armadillo, and a banner with the word "Friendship", Texas' state motto. One of the more personal elements of this suit is the inclusion of Texas wild rice, which you see on the lower portion of the suit pants. Texas wild rice is a perennial grass that roots underwater in the river bed and only exists in the upper two miles of the San Marcos River in San Marcos, Texas - the place designer Christina Hurt Smith calls home.
