Nanotyrannus, meaning ‘dwarf tyrant,’ is a debated genus of tyrannosaurid dinosaur that might actually be a juvenile Tyrannosaurus. Known only from a small skull, it lived approximately 72.1 to 66 million years ago. One key difference is that Nanotyrannus had more teeth in its upper and lower jaws compared to an adult Tyrannosaurus, with 14-15 teeth on each side of the upper jaw and 16 on each side of the lower jaw, while T. rex had fewer tooth positions. These dinosaurs likely hunted in pairs or packs, targeting large creatures of the Late Cretaceous like ceratopsians and hadrosaurs.
