It was a medium- to large-sized animal, weighing between 1,000 and 2,000 kilograms. One of its most distinctive features was its exceptionally long tail, which made up more than half of its total body length. This tail was reinforced with ossified tendons, making it strong and stiff for balance and defense. Tenontosaurus could move on two legs but likely walked on all fours when feeding or moving slowly.
