Raptors were carnivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous Period, approximately 100.5 to 66 million years ago. The first remains of this species were discovered by Peter Kaisen in the Gobi Desert on August 11, 1923. A year later, it was officially named Velociraptor, a name derived from the Latin words “Velox,” meaning “swift,” and “Raptor,” meaning “thief” or “robber.” Although Velociraptor gained worldwide fame through the Jurassic Park film series, the creatures shown in the movies differ greatly from the real dinosaur. The film’s depiction was actually based on a larger relative known as Deinonychus, not the true Velociraptor. In reality, Velociraptors were much small
