Surprisingly, German chamomile grows very well for us in varied climates (both wet and very dry seasons). Traditionally, this herb has been considered a “cure-all.” In Native American traditions, it is said that folks drank the tea as a way to alleviate gas, dispel constipation, promote respiratory functioning, lift the mood as well as to make jewelry and perfume. The plant has been used cosmetically to lighten hair, soften skin, and perfume the body. When the tea is steeped for longer time, the herb’s bitter quality is known to support healthy digestion. Due to the herb’s gentle nature, mothers often incorporate the blossoms into bathwater for their anxious children or teething infants.
