This work started because my mother had to move in with me during the California forest fire near her home in 2007. She has had a long recreational relationship to real estate and I noticed after she left, there were all these free real estate magazines around the house. I was going to toss them, but before I could, a friend dropped by and started asking advice about his music career and after finding out that he has never recorded a song, I started to page through the magazine pile that was trash-slated and all the houses looked like mug shots or un-adoptable ten year olds, so I started drawing versions of the homes that were both faithful and distorted. What's in front of me is always a force. I believe in the present moment. I started making these houses for personal reasons and then the image of a floating abandoned house became directly emblematic of what was/is going on in U.S. housing, economics, security and identity-the broader sphere is available in the personal and present.
