Vegetables (from the series Meanwhile, Farmers' Market Farmers)

I drew these mushrooms and vegetables early one morning at the San Francisco Civic Center Farmers' Market as the farmers walked me through their stalls, sharing the names of and details about their produce. These images were originally part of the series Meanwhile, Farmers' Market Farmers, an illustrated documentary depicting the life of farmers, told through drawings and the words of the farmers themselves. It is one of an ongoing series of Meanwhile illustrated documentaries, in which I spent a month with a subculture, getting to know the people, drawing their lives and interviewing them about what they do and why.
