Cartier Pencil with Lighter

A sterling silver telescopic pencil with removable end cap exposing a lighter.  This exceptionally rare piece was made by Cartier for the US market, and is fully signed Cartier and Sterling on the cap.  The body of the pencil is engine turned with a cartouche in the center for personalisation.  The end cap is removable to expose the flint wheel and wick of the lighter.  The lighter can be pulled from the end of the pencil to replace the flint and to re-fill with lighter fluid, when needed.  The lighter itself was made by 'Redilite', and were used by many companies as a way to include a lighter in products.  This example by Cartier is presented in fully functioning condition, for both pencil and lighter.  Made in America, circa 1920's.
