Help Save Our Oceans
Help Save Our Threatened Oceans Billions of pounds of plastic – including fishing gear - enter our oceans each year, and this can have serious impacts on the health of marine life. Long-term exposure to microplastics has been found to stunt the growth of coral, while coral reefs with plastic debris are substantially more apt to be diseased than reefs without it. A quarter of all marine life is dependent upon coral reefs at some point in their lives, so their health and survival are also impacted. There are direct impacts to wildlife, too, with plastic entanglement and ingestion killing or injuring nearly 700 different species, including many that are endangered. This, combined with sea level rise, industrial and agricultural runoff, and increasing ocean temperatures, can lead to catastrophic economic implications for coastal communities dependent on ocean life and even more dire global consequences.Greater Good Charities is dedicated to the conservation of our earth’s oceans and marine
