In Norse Myth, the Valkyries are the Choosers of the Slain, Odin's Warrior women. They would ride into a battlefield, choosing the best warriors, to join Odin's army in Valhalla. There seems to be some sort of intertwined connection between the Valkyries, Norns and the Disir in the Eddas and Sagas. Named among the Valkyries is Skuld, the youngest of the Norns; the word Valkyrie replaced Disir in some translations; and sometimes it seems the Valkyries behaved as Norns (Njal's Saga where the Valkyries sit above a battlefield weaving the fates of the warriors below in a gruesome fashion).
