Ginnungagap is the first full-scale museum exhibition of Swedish artist Sigrid Sandström. The term ginnungagap meaning “seeming emptiness” is used in Norse mythology to describe the void between the land of eternal ice and that of eternal flame. This exhibition includes a dramatic Kent oil painting Resurrection Bay, Alaska (1939) from the Frye’s permanent collection, offering a point of reference for Sandström’s vast uncharted wilderness and humanity’s voracious dreams of its conquest.
