Wall in China by Jay Schlie

Jay Schlie’s work is mounted on wood to bring out highlights, character, and overall emotion of the photo. All of his work mounted on wood is a one-off original piece, you cannot replicate the wood. The wood came into play as Jay had found memories of when photos were tactile. Going through stacks of photos, cutting them up, making collages, and creating zines when he was younger influenced his current work. Finding the right photo and matching it to the wood brought back the sense of tactile photos. This pushed both Jay’s eye for photos and creativity with what could be done with the photo and the wood.
