Hibiscus Syriacus (Rose Of Sharon) is a deciduous shrub which produces flowers in shades of pink, red, blue and purple, just to mention a few. Tolerant of heat and humidity, attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies, and bypassed by deer, Hibiscus are a must-have for the sunny garden. Hibiscus Syriacus plants grow approximately 8–12 feet high, with a spread of 6–10 feet and produce 2- to 4-inch blooms from midsummer throughout the fall. Rose of Sharon thrives in full sun, in rich well-drained soil that's acidic to slightly alkaline and evenly moist. Prune to shape in spring and cut back to 2 - 3 buds in late winter to get bigger blooms. Fertilize the hibiscus every two weeks during the growing season. The Rose of Sharon is a low maintenance, hardy perennial once established.
