Acrylic on Canvas Painting depicting a Hopi Starman. The Starman (often identified with the Hopi katsina called Sotuknang) is a symbol of guidance, spirituality, and connection to the cosmos. The Hopi "Starman" is a prominent figure depicted by Hopi artist Fred Kabotie in the murals he created for the Grand Canyon's Desert View Watchtower in 1932-33. Kabotie was commissioned by architect Mary Colter to paint scenes that reflected the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Hopi people in this iconic structure. Hopi artist Kevin Horace Quannie mixes acrylic paint with sand to create a unique texture, giving his paintings the appearance of a Hopi-style sandpainting. 15” Width. 30” Height
