The innovative end-product is something called Yupo Synthetic Paper, an amazing tear proof and waterproof paper extruded from polypropylene pellets in Chesapeake, Virginia. If you want a notebook that will last, this is the one. Heat, altitude, humidity, rain-- this notebook laughs at all of them. Aesthetically, there's also plenty to like: A hi-visibility “Antarctic Survey Orange” front cover and a “Polar Night Black” back cover with a subtle varnish effect featuring a topographic map of Antarctica. The body pages feature Field Note's popular dot-graph paper printed in light gray. Note: Synthetic paper is nonporous and doesn’t absorb ink like conventional paper.
