1996 Carved & Painted Wood Folk Art Tall Skinny Santa Figure D. Shaw Penryn, PA
Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art figure. The carving shows a very tall and skinny bearded man wearing a red robe having a hoody standing on a white flat base. The man, which we believe is a representation of Belsnickel, Santa Clause, or father Christmas, was carved and painted by Doug Shaw of Penryn, Pennsylvania. The figure is wearing an over coat colored in dark red with a gold and black colored edge. Santa has a flesh colored face and hands and a long white beard as well as white eye brows. Santa is holding two oval plates in his hands one having a very colorful bird. The piece is signed and dated by the artist on the bottom the base. The carving shows quite a bit of details. The entire piece appears to be carved from a single piece of wood and then attached to the white colored base. Just a wonderful and nicely done piece of American Folk Art to add to your Americana Collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part an
