Loved for its porous texture, it’s arguably one of the best rocks to pair with epiphytic aquarium plants and mosses. You’ll often see easy aquatic plants like Anubias, Bucephalandra, moss, or ferns attached to this type of aquarium hardscape. Our favorites are Mini Pellia and Fissidens Fontanus! Its lightweight density makes it easy to stack or balance when creating structured aquascape layouts. And because it’s relatively light, you’ll get more volume per pound compared to denser stones. It works wonderfully on its own or as a base foundation underneath your favorite aquarium wood. It is also very easy to break down if you need smaller pieces for layout accents or nano aquariums. Overall, Lava Rock is versatile and offers many benefits. Aside from its use as a hardscape layout material, it’s also great for cultivating a healthy colon
