DECALS, 48' 9" BULKHEAD FLAT CAR 60550 to 60569
We have no photo of this series. Image is of model GN 60545 from series GN 60500 to 60549 which was identical. Great Northern supplied bulkhead flat cars for transportation of lumber, plywood, wallboard, aluminum ingots, pipe, pilings, telephone poles, and granite blocks. These 48’ 9” inside length bulkhead flat cars were built by Great Northern in 1960 using General Steel Industries cast steel bodies. Length over the strikers was 54’ 2”. This was the last lot of GN built bulkhead flat cars. They were built with relatively short 6’ 6” high bulkhead. Later, three random cars received 2’ 6” bulkhead extensions making them 9 feet high. Capacity was 100,000 pounds. Body color was vermillion red. Standard draft gear Use Walthers car. These superb decals are from the Precision Design Company in Canada.
