As many as 16 million Americans battle COPD and worldwide there are hundreds of millions of people who live with some type of chronic lung condition. Though many of these diseases have no cure at this time, that doesn't mean that nothing can be done. Early diagnosis is essential for successful treatment. By raising awareness we can speed diagnosis, advocate for research funding, and support those who have already been diagnosed. Our goal for this shirt is to increase visibility of respiratory disease, but and to inspire patients who wear it to empower themselves with the knowledge they need to slow disease progression, keep symptoms under control, and live free and independent lives. The latin phrase "Spiro, Spero, Persevero" It's a paraphrase of a refrain from ancient philosopher Theocritus. It means, I breathe, I hope, I go on.
