This coin was minted in Mexico and was widely used in the American Colonies. The word “Cob” comes from a Spanish phrase ” cabo de barra” meaning cut from a bar”. The coins were sliced off Silver Bars and trimmed to weight and then struck using crude dies. They come in 8, 4, 2, and 1 Reales. Each of the reales has their value on the obverse.
