Saratoga. Beaumont renders an image of the USS Saratoga (CV-3), one of the United States Navy's first aircraft carriers, under the block capital red letter headline CONTACT! We believe this is one of the first posters issued by the US Navy to feature an aircraft carrier. The USS Saratoga went on to fight in many of the major Pacific Theater naval battles of WWII and garner 8 Battle Stars before being sunk as a target ship in the Operation Crossroads Atomic Bomb tests near Bikini Atoll in 1946. Text at the bottom of the poster reads: An enlistment in the U.S. Navy brings a young man into close contact with experience which will benefit him in the later life. For information see U.
