Bayer received his commission for this work from Leo Lionni, another towering figure among 20th century graphic designers, who was art director of the New York City advertising firm N.W. Ayers at the time. Bayer’s remarkable use of photomontage, dynamic layout, color illustration and diagrams communicate a bold new world and brighter future made possible by General Electric’s innovations in the field of electronics. Bayer was the last surviving member of The Bauhaus where he had a close association with Vasily Kandinsky, Laszlo Maholy-Nagy and other luminaries of the school.
