The 7th War Loan drive commenced just days after Germany had surrendered as the focus of the war shifted entirely toward defeating Japan. Flagg’s Uncle Sam “I Want You for the U.S. Army” poster created during WWI is perhaps the most well known and iconic American war poster of all. For this poster issued almost 28 years after Flagg’s most famous I Want You creation, Uncle Sam returns and although he may have aged a bit he hasn’t lost any of his pugnacity. Bedecked in his trademark American flag suit, Uncle Sam grabs a heavy wrench, rolls up his sleeves and sets off to take care of the remaining unfinished war business with Japan.
