1924 Come To Java The Wonderland Netherland Indian Government Railway

Date: 1924Artist: Unknown  Size (in): 35.5” x 23.75”Size (cm): 90.2 x 60.3Condition: B+ Linen backed: No This is an extremely rare travel poster for Java, the world’s most populous island and one of Indonesia’s four Greater Sunda Islands.   This English language poster isn’t dated but was issued by the Netherland Indian Government Railways in the late 1920s or 1930s.  Text on the poster reads Come To Java The Wonderland and Only 36 Hours From Singapore 6 Days From Manilla.   The lower right corner features an inset map showing the rail system connecting South Sumatra with Java with principal cities Palembang, Oosthaven, Batavia, Bandoeng, Semarang, Djocja and Soerabaia denoted.  The lower margin just below the map is printed “REPR. BEDR. TOP. DIENST.” and “AFD. PUBLICITEIT S.S.”.   This vintage original poster is free of tape or pinholes and shows light to moderate wear and some toning from age.  The poster was folded neatly into quarters.  Overall condition is very good.
