Fluorite, also known as fluorspar, is the mineral calcium fluoride (CaF2). In its pure form fluorite is both colorless and transparent.  However, it often forms with impurities which gives fluorite its vibrant, dynamic color palette and variety of shapes that it is prized for. This appreciation of its beauty even is found as far back in the ancient histories of Rome and Egypt. Alongside it's observable beauty, fluorite also hides remarkable fluorescent properties only visible under UV light- and is actually the source of our word "fluorescent".
