Vintage Southwest Bear Sterling Silver Earrings with Wave Overlay
There are few animals as respected in Native American culture as the bear. They commonly feature in Southwest jewelry. These bear earrings are of the design associated with the "Southwest Bear". In Southwest Pueblo culture the bear represents courage and strength. The bears showcase overlay silver work including a "Water Wave". It is representative of water cycles, life, and renewal. Overlay work is traditionally associated with Hopi artists though it is done by individuals within, and without, many tribes now. The earrings in total weight approximately 3 grams as a pair or 1.5 grams each. The bears are slightly over 1/2 inches tall and slightly over 3/4s of an inch wide.
