Human skin contains 2,000,000 sebaceous glands with a density of around 400 to 900 glands per cm² on the face, especially in the mid-face area also referred to as “T zone”. Sebum secretion helps maintain epidermal hydration and suppleness, while balancing bacterial flora. However, excess sebum makes the skin look shiny and causes the appearance of comedones or spots.
