1860's Victorian Gas Lamp Lighter Torch & Valve Key T.W. Houchin #620 NY GS00360
This brass & wood gas torch valve was used to light gas lamps. It combines a valve-key for turning on the gas and the tubes held wax-covered wicks for lighting the lamp (not included). The length of the tool would make it easy to reach for lighting. One end has a turned handle and the upper section is a tubular brass. The wicks used were just as long as the tube and was moved along as it burned down from usage. Opposite end is a shaped valve which was used to turn the gas on or off. Makers mark with i.d. is also stamped on both sides at the top of the valve. Measurements: 30" long and 2"wide at makers mark. This is just one example from thousands of vintage lighting collectibles we have in our shop! Note: Materials, handling, shipping, insurance and postage included with price.
