This slip-on pattern dates back to the early 1800s as a riding boot, which is how it originally earned the 'Paddock boot' name. Only in the mid-1900s, when the boot was popular in England, was it referred to as a Chelsea, a district in southwest London. This pattern carries over to multiple categories.
