     Before the end of the 1950s the Mikasa Company Inc. adopted the trademark "Mikasa” which is the Japanese word for "three umbrellas." Mikasa Co. Inc. was a fast-growing retailer and wholesaler company sold its dinnerware and decorative accessories through wholesale accounts in the United States and abroad and in the U.S., they had a network of approximately 150 U.S. based factory outlet stores. Unlike many of its competitors, the company did not own manufacturing facilities. Instead Mikasa Co. contracted out designs to approximately 175 factories in 25 countries. Mikasa’s twice nice is the name of two discontinued patterns.
