Fuyu Persimmon Tree
The Fuyu Persimmon Tree (Diospyros kaki 'Fuyu') is a deciduous fruit tree with a rounded spreading crown with sought after ornamental qualities. Fragrant creamy white female flowers bloom in late spring, with the pink-toned male flowers appearing in clusters of three. Fruits are firm, non-astringent that mature to bright orange to red in late fall at around 3-4" in diameter. Best if alowed time to soften slightly after harvesting. Fall foliage is a brilliant orange-red. Self-pollinating, but will produce more fruit with a second tree nearby. Plant in deep, moist, slightly acidic, well-drained loams in full sun. Prefers moist, sandy soils. Drought tolerant. Promptly remove root suckers unless naturalized effect is desired.
