Hall's Honeysuckle
The Hall's Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica 'Halliana') is a deciduous vining plant that not only makes a beautiful addition to any landscape, but also for us as a ground cover for erosion control. Vines are easy to grow, vigorous and heat-tolerant. The showy/fragrant flowers will attract hummingbirds and butterflies all summer long, as well as song birds in the fall. Once established, the plants need only moderate watering, unless suffering drought-like conditions. As with any honeysuckle, they can quickly become invasive if not pruned regularly. Trim back hard in winter to prevent the build-up of woody growth. Uses: Trellis, fence, arbor, or other framework, in containers but grown as a ground cover or used for erosion control. Birds and rabbits consume the fruits and disperse the seed. Semi-evergreen foliage is a source of winter forage for white-tailed deer.
