La Vispera Vino de San Juan 2024
Dim the lights and break out the candles for this so-good-its-spooky red from Juan Ledesma at Terroir Sonoro. "On la Vispera de San Juan (St. John's Eve)," he writes. "Very close to the winter solstice, the world of spirits is very close to the living. The fig trees bloom and the guitars play alone in the moonlight, while the devil wanders through the fields...". Produced from 100% Cinsault, the grapes are crushed with a traditional Zaranda, or press, which allows for partial carbonic maceration during the fermentation process. After four days the grapes are pressed and the wine, still fermenting, is racked into a stainless steel tank where it completes fermentation. La Vispera is Juan's interpretation of a "nouveau" style of wine, medium-bodied, fresh, juicy, with notes of wild strawberry and black raspberry, ideal for a cool, spooky fall evening.
